Thousands of animals and dozens of farms were left without water in Nurra due to drought. An emergency that led Coldiretti Northern Sardinia, with a delegation of breeders led by President Battista Cualbu , to meet in Sassari in the Municipality, together with the president of the Nurra Reclamation Consortium Gavino Zirattu, the mayor Nanni Campus and the commander of the Traffic Police and local civil protection manager Gianni Serra.

THE DATA - According to a study by Coldiretti, 2022 ranks in the first semester in Italy as the hottest year ever with a temperature even higher than 0.76 degrees compared to the historical average, but rainfall has also been practically halved with a 45% drop. An upheaval that, although in Sardinia is attenuated in the areas equipped for irrigation thanks to a reservoir system (on the island there is the largest number of dams in Italy) and their interconnections that did not require rationing at the moment, is however hitting the other territories.

In Nurra , where there are several artesian wells, this great drought has left the farmers, as never before, dry , without water for either livestock or domestic use (several farmers live with their families on the farm). " Immediate action is needed because the summer is still long and families and animals cannot be left without water - says Cualbu -. It is a state of emergency . We have found a sensitive and attentive interlocutor in the mayor of Sassari who he said he was ready to start all the procedures to give answers to the farmers ".

It would be a question of supporting the costs of transporting water that the Consortium of Reclamation through the president Gavino Zirattu will guarantee free of charge, given the emergency, but which must be brought to companies for both domestic and zootechnical use.

"The Nurra Reclamation Consortium is ready to meet companies in difficulty and will do so immediately". assures Zirattu.
