He had managed to turn his greatest passion into a profession, and thanks to his voice he had had the opportunity to perform in the most important theaters in the world: Domus de Maria says goodbye to the tenor Gianni Cara , who died at the age of 66 in Turin , the city in which he had moved when he was 17.

Cara had recently retired after working for the Teatro Regio in Turin: his art had led him to perform around Europe , and also in Japan, the United States, Canada and Arab countries.

Although he had moved to the Piedmontese capital when he was not even of age, Gianni Cara had never forgotten his origins : that bond with his land led him to return to Domus de Maria where his brothers and sisters live whenever he could.

«He was in love with his town and the sea of Chia, since he retired he tried to come back whenever he could - says his sister, Anna Maria Cara -, the last time was in December, the day of the Immaculate he resisted and went to take a swim in the sea, then when he returned to Turin his health conditions worsened , and the incurable disease he had been fighting against for a year left him no way out". «Gianni had never forgotten where he came from – continues Anna Maria – he was a humble person, to those in the village who asked him what he did for a living, he limited himself to saying that he sang . He never bragged about his work, even if he happened to perform in the same opera in which Luciano Pavarotti sang. My brother's enormous passion will live on in his two children, a boy and a girl, who after graduating from the conservatory intend to make their way into music, just like their father».
