Today the Dog Festival is celebrated, an event chosen to commemorate a turning point for the salvation of thousands of beagle dogs, in the "Green Hill" process , destined for animal testing.

Today, ten years after the events, this date is still celebrated, which marked an epochal change in society's perception of what it means and what it involves to mistreat an animal: a crime.

And on this occasion, Enpa has chosen to talk about dog well-being with a small vademecum of what is important to put into practice for the happiness of their four-legged friends.

SLEEP - Dogs spend nearly a third of their life sleeping. And just like us, the quality and duration of sleep affect health and psycho-physical well-being. “Too often - says Meir Levy, Enpa veterinarian - we forget the vital importance that the role of sleep has for our four-legged friends. The hours of rest vary according to the species, age and size of the animal. On average, an adult dog usually sleeps around 14 hours, an elderly dog around 18 hours while the puppy even sleeps 20 hours a day. Sleeping well allows our four-legged friends to fully recover their energy , allowing the body to function properly, eliminating stress and fatigue, and also affects the animal's good mood ". Learning how to protect the sleep of our animals is important. First of all, make sure that our dog's favorite place to sleep is away from drafts, away from cold or heat. The kennel must be comfortable, large enough to accommodate the animal and to allow it to turn around and find the preferred position. Lighting : if we observe our dog we will soon realize if our pet prefers to sleep in a shaded area or in an illuminated spot. It is very important never to disturb a sleeping dog. To teach our children that when our pet is sleeping we must leave him alone. We guarantee our four-legged friend an ideal comfort zone for sleeping, in sheltered places such as it could be under the table or behind the sofa.

THE WALK - The walk, for the dog, is a fundamental need and not only serves to make them do the needs but satisfies their need for knowledge, socialization, exploration, cognitive development and psychological balance. For him, even though he has traveled a road already 100 times, every day is still different and giving him time to sniff around allows him to explore and discover information that is very important to him. During the walk, the dog relaxes and calms down, focuses on smells, strengthens the relationship with us, experiences.

THE GAME - Play is an important time for dogs of all ages, not just puppies. Dedicating a part of our day to playing with our dog should become a good daily habit for us. With the game we strengthen our bond of friendship with him and it is therefore important to have the maximum attention of our dog. The ideal is to alternate 2 minutes of play with a few more minutes of rest. In this way he will be more available to follow and listen to us. The game is an essential educational moment that combines fun with the knowledge of the body and respect for the rules.
