At this time, entrusting the emergency medical service during the summer period to specialized operators is the only viable solution to strengthen the emergency urgency system in Sardinia.

This was stated by the councilor for health Mario Nieddu in relation to the announcement of the Ares for the coverage of the active guard in 12 garrisons of the island .

"In the absence of special rules such as those adopted to govern the Covid emergency - explained Nieddu - we are forced to evaluate any possible way to guarantee citizens the continuity of services and immediate responses".

The one on active guards, he added, "is a formula already a reality in other Regions and tested for some time in Sardinia, first at the Delogu hospital in Ghilarza , and then at San Martino in Oristano . Today our priority is to give immediate answers to need for assistance, strengthening a system exhausted by over two years of pandemic and with the prospect of a summer that will bring an enormous number of presences to the island ".

Therefore, "there is no privatization of public health, those who argue about our choices do so in an instrumental way without indicating alternatives".

The commissioner recalled that "the shortage of specialists concerns all disciplines , but the emergency-urgency is one of the sectors in which this criticality is particularly strong. The latest competition for the recruitment of doctors for our first aid given the participation of nineteen specialists out of twenty places available, a fact that is in itself symptomatic of the problem. Furthermore, almost all of them were structured doctors, that is already in service in our hospitals. This is the case in which the competition is used as an alternative to mobility, without however bringing new specialists to work in our health system ".
