"I've never shown any disrespect to any club , much less any national team. Mine was an instinctive celebration. We were among teammates and friends, we're good people."
Federico Dimarco, speaking at Coverciano, wanted to clarify this after the controversy surrounding his and some of his teammates' celebrations for Bosnia's qualification, a celebration immortalised in a video broadcast by Rai .
"I've heard people call me and my teammates arrogant, but what right should we have to be, considering we've missed qualifying for two World Cups? I spoke to Dzeko, who's a friend. I wrote to congratulate him, and he replied, 'May the best man win.' He's never been disrespectful to Bosnians," the Italian emphasized, thus attempting to defuse the controversy, while also taking a dig at RAI, which holds the exclusive rights to the national team's matches and broadcast the images of the celebration.
"It was disrespectful to be filmed in an area where there were friends and family . Now let's focus on the match," the Inter player said.
Against Bosnia, the Azzurri have 4 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat, in 1996. Their last meeting in a friendly two years ago, ended 1-0 with a goal from Frattesi, while in their last away match, in the 2020 Nations League, Italy won 2-0, with goals from Belotti and Berardi.
