The government's discount was 17 cents, but the price of diesel in Sardinia only dropped by 12.8 cents . And the island fared even better than other regions, such as Campania, where from July 27th – the date the fuel decree was approved – to today, the price per liter has dropped by only 9.5 euro cents .
This is the data provided by the National Consumers Union.
In Sardinia, the average price of diesel is €2.064 per liter, according to the Mimit observatory; yesterday it was €2.070. The difference compared to the price on July 27 is 12.8 cents , 4.2 cents less than the national government decree established. Therefore, Sardinians, who according to UNC's calculations should have saved €8.54 for a 50-liter tank, are saving €6.40 .
On the podium of the least virtuous regions, behind Campania, are Basilicata and Molise. The most virtuous are Valle d'Aosta, Friuli Venezia Giulia, and Lombardy. But even in the "best" region from this point of view, the price dropped by an average of 13.4 cents per liter, far from the 17 cents envisaged by the government decree.
As for the absolute price of diesel today, the island ranks mid-table among the regions. The figures for Sicily and the Autonomous Province of Bolzano stand out, where the price of diesel still exceeds 2.1 euros per liter .
In short, explains UNC President Massimiliano Dona , "even considering the slightly rising trend in oil prices, the numbers don't add up. The pass-through of the excise duty reduction hasn't been complete; some have skimmed the water ."
