Diesel prices skyrocket due to the war. The island saw the highest price increases after Valle d'Aosta: +5% in two days.
In Sardinia, fuel prices are increasingly close to €2 per liter. Increases are not only for vehicles, but also at ports: the record is set in Calasetta. The war between the US, Israel, and Iran and the blockade of oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz ( VIDEO ) continue to drive up fuel prices. And Sardinia is one of the Italian regions most affected by the price increases.
According to the price data published on the Mimit website as of today, 6 March 2026 , the average price on the island for a litre of self-service diesel is 1.931 euros per litre , that of self-service petrol 1.779 euros per litre and that of self-service LPG 0.803 euros per litre .
Just two days ago, on March 4, the price for self-service diesel was 1.838 euros/litre , that of self-service petrol was 1.743 euros/litre and that of self-service LPG was 0.799.
In just 48 hours, therefore, prices have risen between 2% and 5%, with diesel fuel rising by almost 10 cents and a full tank costing over 5 euros more. Furthermore, excluding the autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano, Sardinia is the region most affected by the price increases, after Valle d'Aosta (where diesel currently costs 1.933 euros/liter).
The price hike isn't just affecting vehicles, however. According to an analysis by Confcooperative Fedagripesca, fuel prices have become a national emergency for the fishing industry as well, with an average price increase of 33% and a further 3% spike recorded in just forty-eight hours.
In ports, the average price of diesel has jumped from 0.72 to 0.96 euros per liter . The Northern Adriatic and Tuscany lead the ranking of the heaviest increases, but Sardinia is no exception, with the cost of diesel fuel reaching 1.15 euros per liter (the peak in Calasetta).
