Dermatitis delays €800 million budget: diplomats working to mend fences, farmers pressuring
The center-right is ready to accelerate the budget adjustment (4,400 amendments have been submitted) only if an agreement is reached on funding for the virus affecting cattle.Video di Stefano Fioretti
The €800 million budget remains bogged down in the Regional Council. The Committee must examine over 4,400 amendments before the budget adjustment, originally scheduled for approval this week, returns to the floor before the summer recess.
The only way to accelerate this process is through an agreement on bovine dermatitis to increase compensation resources , following the failed attempt to reach a synthesis between the government's and the opposition's bills. This failed agreement has poisoned the climate between the factions.
Yet diplomats have resumed their efforts to mend the rift, also under strong pressure from livestock breeders' associations . Their further contribution could prove decisive in reaching an agreement that would then also allow for rapid approval of the Budget Adjustment.
Tomorrow, August 8th, the group leaders and the associations will meet, which could lead to an agreement on dermatitis funding, followed by the Budget Committee meeting. The regional council will meet again on Monday morning .
Paolo Truzzu clarified the centre-right's position in the wake of the controversy over the majority approval of the text proposed by the Council on dermatitis: "We are ready to approve the provision on dermatitis in a minute," explains the opposition representative. "We have been asking the Council for some time to take charge of emergencies and address them, but we do not agree to using the European regulation that provides for de minimis aid."
However, as the majority emphasizes, this system allows for immediate use of resources, avoiding the lengthy waiting times of other procedures. But the message is clear: if an agreement is reached on this and if they agree to immediately convene the agricultural trade associations tomorrow morning to discuss the text, then "out of a sense of responsibility," Truzzu clarifies, "we are willing to discuss accelerating the approval process for the budget adjustment."
