Eclectic shades of extreme metal for true aficionados, enclosed in the trusty treasure chest that has always been Cagliari's Fabrik for the local alternative scene: and this Friday's date also marks the return of Deatfiend from Birmingham , who, two years after their last appearance on the island, will be on stage in the capital to promote their new album "Dark Rising" , supported by Sardinian bands Vultur and Mexoff in an evening that promises to be adrenaline-filled, starting at 9:30 pm.

Although Deathfiend only formed three years ago, the British band is led by heavy music veteran John Pickering (vocals and guitar), former frontman and founder of the crust punk pioneers Doom, followed by sonic explorations with the violent grindcore of Sore Throat, the pounding doom metal of Cain, and the metallic hardcore of Police Bastard. It was in this latter band that Pickering had the fortune of sharing the stage with another punk veteran, Sardinian Andrea Pisu (drums), with whom the idea of forming Deathfiend was born. The lineup was completed by Rick Farn on bass. Starting with a sound reminiscent of early 1980s death metal, the UK trio plays with inspirations from doom metal and crust punk, enriched by an atmospheric approach (typical of the more recent death and black metal scenes) that almost verges on psychedelia.

Deathfiend, expected last on the bill, will be preceded on the Fabrik stage by the two opening bands : first up will be Mexoff, a historic island band with a hardcore punk and powerviolence slant, who will debut with a four-piece lineup for an intense and noisy live show that will explore their vast discography. Next up will be the pagan and distinctive black metal of Vultur, whose frenetic pace is matched only by the darkness of the atmospheres they evoke: fresh from a tour of Italy and England, the band debuted earlier this year with the album "Cultores de perdas e linna."
