Retail prices are rising on the island, with differences between cities and towns.

This is confirmed by a survey by Adiconsum which examines the latest Istat data on inflation which in Sardinia reached + 6.1%, equal to a higher annual expenditure of +1,622 euros for a "typical" resident family.

"Taking into consideration the items that mark the heaviest increases, the sector that records the strongest leap is that of 'Electricity, gas and fuels', with an average increase in the region of + 60.9% on an annual basis, which reaches the peak + 66% in Olbia - explains the president of Adiconsum Sardegna, Giorgio Vargiu - The prices of food products grow on average by 6%, but in Sassari the increase is heavier (6.5%). On average, 10.5% more is spent on transport than last year, while holiday packages rise by + 11% ”.

The bill at the restaurant is also saltier: in Sardinia, dining out today costs an average of 4.1% more, with a peak of + 5.2% in Sassari, a city where the rates charged by accommodation facilities also record double-digit increases: + 13.6% according to Adiconsum Sardegna.

"The data on inflation in Sardinia show how the cost of expensive bills has been passed on to final consumers through an increase in retail price lists that affects all sectors - continues the president, Giorgio Vargiu - Our fear is that in March, with the petrol emergency and the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, and the relative repercussions on prices, in Sardinia we can reach a record inflation rate even higher than that recorded in February. For this reason we ask the government to impose administered prices at least for basic necessities such as food and strategic goods such as electricity, gas and fuel ".
