Released in theaters just a handful of days ago, “Deadpool & Wolverine” is starting to record dizzying numbers at the international box office , and the results are even more promising than initially predicted. The ambitious cinecomic which aims to relaunch adaptations from the world of superheroes after years of unconvincing releases has made a sure hit by bringing together two of the characters most loved by the fanbase . In an explosion of exaggerated fights and out-of-control gags, “Deadpool & Wolverine” finally brings together the universes of the old film sagas within the main line of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, kicking off a new cycle that will include the appearance of many others superheroes still relegated to the pages of comics or stuck in the past.
Without hiding its fan service nature in any way, and indeed exaggerating it beyond belief with references to old films, pop music classics and surprising twists to say the least, the film has already conquered the international box office by collecting the figure of 96 million dollars from distribution in 4,210 theaters during previews. An exceptional result that celebrates it as the biggest opening of the year, even higher than that achieved by “Inside Out 2” with the sum of 62 million dollars. As if that wasn't enough, the milestone marks the sixth highest grossing in the history of cinema among R-rated titles for "Deadpool & Wolverine". The news sounds even more comforting if you consider that the previous "The Marvels" had established the sad record of the worst result ever achieved by a title from the studio.
Among other things, we must not forget the long gestation of the project, which suffered among many complications the postponement of the release date due to the strikes of actors and screenwriters of the SAG-AFTRA union . What made an important contribution to its success was instead the intense marketing campaign, in which the two leading actors Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman also took an active part. But it doesn't end there, after the first week the results from the American box office also arrive: a stellar debut of 206 million dollars places the film in eighth position in the ranking of the best debuts ever for the national market. The response in other foreign countries is no less impressive, with further proceeds of 233.3 million dollars for a total of 438 million dollars. The numbers are even more astounding in light of the 300 million spent on production costs and the advertising campaign: all things considered, the revenues largely cover the starting costs after just a week from the release in theaters.
The film also made inroads into the Italian market with an unprecedented exploit. The Bel Paese rewarded the title with the takings of 7 million euros in the first five days of programming, and over 590,000 attendances recorded over the weekend alone. Now ready to surpass the debut of the first "Deadpool" of 7.3 million euros and of the sequel of 7.1 million, "Deadpool & Wolverine" seems destined to set cinemas on fire throughout the summer season. Proving themselves to be a couple of esteemed colleagues even off the set, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman were able to win over their fans even before the title was released.
This was also confirmed by the harmony shown during the panel at Comc-Con in San Diego, during which Reynolds made a point of recalling his first appearance at the fair : «I was the most nervous human being on Earth. It was a dream coming true, but I remember making that movie for you and I remember how gratifying it was that everyone else liked it too. I'll never forget this moment, because this asshole was backstage..." And pointing to Hugh Jackman, the actor passed the word to his scene partner: «I was right over there watching the video. As the images scrolled, a chorus arose: once again, once again! I ran backstage, found the stage manager and said: postpone the footage again. If you don't postpone the damn footage, they'll destroy Hall H!”
