The Trophy Tour starts from Sardinia and takes the Davis Cup won by the Azzurri in Malaga to all the Italian regions, concluding in September in Bologna.

Until Tuesday 27 December the prestigious salad bowl will be on display at the Torre di Porta Terra, in Alghero. Three other stages are planned on the island: from 28 to 31 December at the Torres Tennis in Sassari, from 2 to 4 January in the council chamber of Arzachena and, finally, from 5 January in Cagliari, in the exhibition venue of the Historical Archive in Largo Carlo Felice.

Today the press conference for the “Trophy Tour” was held in Alghero: «Now we have to enjoy it, after 47 years...», said Fitp president Angelo Binaghi. The triumph "is the fruit of the efforts of an entire movement, because it is true that we have Sinner, but everyone recognizes that we have created a system that the world envies us."

«You Sardinians are lucky - added Binaghi with a smile - there is no region in Italy that has hosted so many editions of Davis, there are eight. In the first one I was a ball boy."

Again, referring to Alghero: «Here you have always had tennis in your blood, generations of extraordinary managers, who have made it possible, thanks also to the sensitivity of the municipal administration, to put tennis at the center of sporting activity. Therefore, it was a necessary choice, which must make us reflect on the future: thanks also to this Cup, tennis has become a popular national phenomenon. Change your perspective, it's a good time to invest in tennis and padel, I say this to administrators and citizens. We are ready".

The mayor Mario Conoci, the president of the regional council Michele Pais and the young promise of Sardinian tennis Lorenzo Carboni also took part in the press conference.

«An honor and a great gift to have the Davis Cup here and inaugurate this Giro d'Italia. For us a Christmas present - underlined the Mayor of Alghero Mario Conoci -. For Alghero it is an important step: tennis is a source of pride for this city, we have a facility that we want to renovate and adapt to the times."

«It is an honor to welcome this initiative, we thank President Binaghi, to whom I send greetings

of President Solinas - said Michele Pais -. The regional administration has always believed in the value of sport as a social and tourism promotion vehicle. Investing in sport as we have done in recent years is a legacy from which there will be no going back."
