Matteo Berrettini and Matteo Arnaldi give Italy its first victory in the preliminary round of the Davis Cup underway in Bologna.
The Azzurri, without numbers 1 and 2 Sinner and Musetti, defeated Brazil by prevailing in both singles matches.
In the first match Matteo Berrettini beat the young promise Joao Fonseca, 18 years old, with a score of 6-1, 7-6, recovering a 4-0 deficit in the tiebreak of the second set.
In the second singles match, the one between the number 1s of the two teams, Arnaldi prevailed over Thiago Monteiro at the end of an endless battle won with the score of 7-5, 6-7, 7-6 after 3 hours and 39 minutes. The Italian had the chance to close it on 7-5, 5-2, but was caught by the Brazilian, who won the tiebreak of the second but had to surrender in the tiebreak of the third to the Ligurian tennis player, who closed 7-5 playing the last points with a sore ankle.
