Italian sport mourns Sante Gaiardoni: the former cycling champion has died at the age of 84.

A career full of successes. As the Federciclismo recalls, Gaiardoni was the only Italian to win two gold medals at the 1960 Rome Olympics, in the standing kilometer and in the sprint.

Originally from Villafranca di Verona, where he was born on 29 June 1939, Gaiardoni, on the strength of his Olympic triumphs, then turned professional, giving rise to a long rivalry with the champion Antonio Maspes and achieving important victories, until his retirement in 1971.
