Appointment in Cagliari next Tuesday (at 7 pm, in via Martini 23) with the Aperitivi Culturali di Itzokor. On stage the historian Giampaolo Salice will present his latest work “Terre promessa. Strategie familiare e appenenze imperiali nel Mediterraneo del Settecento”, an essay from the Collana Studi Storici, published by Carocci.

How did the global empires of the eighteenth century take root in the most recently conquered lands? This volume answers this question by telling the story of the Greek Orthodox Alexiano family.

Originally from Malvasia, they migrated to Minorca in the mid-18th century. In that island of Spanish culture and under British sovereignty, they established themselves as protagonists of economic and political relations with Livorno, London, Algiers, Tunis, St. Petersburg, Constantinople.
