Cagliari enters the new frontier of local public transport and becomes one of the first Italian cities to introduce hydrogen-powered buses into its fleet.
The three new buses, presented in Quartu Sant'Elena, are the first in Sardinia and are part of a €150 million investment plan by CTM to create a completely zero-emission fleet.
The new vehicles will be used on suburban lines 9 (Cagliari – Decimomannu) and 19 (Quartu Sant'Elena – Assemini), connections characterised by longer distances, where the high autonomy and rapid refuelling times allow for continuity of service without intermediate recharging.
The vehicles, 12-meter Solaris Urbino Hydrogen powered by fuel cells, produce exclusively water vapor, without polluting emissions, and can reach a range of up to 600 kilometers.
Hydrogen is therefore part of a system based on an energy mix, the most effective solution for the future of public transport.
The renewal of its sustainable fleet continues: by September, 236 electric buses will be in service, and with the completion of the new charging facilities, CTM will have an increasingly sustainable and efficient public transport system, aiming to have a completely zero-emission fleet by 2030.
