Great success for the Crs4 which obtained, for 20 years, the Italian patent on an electronic system for controlling the autonomous navigation of one or more robots within closed environments. The invention requires the robots to be guided along paths that are identified and recalculated instantly to avoid the presence of any obstacles thanks to the "digital twins" that move virtually with the information obtained from the acquisition and processing of infrared and from optical signals.

Satisfaction was expressed by the technologists Federico Bachis, Marco Massa and Massimo Deriu.

«The cutting-edge technology of digital twins used in this patent - it is explained - exploits the virtual representation of a physical entity capable of reproducing the overall state of a real system with which it can exchange data and information thanks to optical sensors and infrared. The field of application of this invention ranges from use in the industrial sector for the movement of goods in warehouses, to guided tours in confined environments, up to the field of security and surveillance".

Giacomo Cao, sole director of Crs4, a research center based in Pula: «For over three years the Center has outlined a clear strategy for the protection of intellectual property which allows on the one hand to make part of the wealth of skills acquired known and on the The other thing is to have the opportunity to financially verticalize the possible exploitation. The excellent result achieved by our technologists in a high-impact sector such as robotics fits into this context. The hope is that the issue relating to the public contribution to keeping granted patents alive will soon be addressed, from the perspective of the regional strategy linked to the world of innovation, especially in favor of small and medium-sized enterprises which, often not being able to have the necessary financial resources are forced to renounce the protection of the acquired know-how".
