More than 1 in 5 of the approximately 34 thousand artisan enterprises in Sardinia is involved, directly or with related activities, in the regional tourism market .

In fact, there are 6,400 small and medium-sized businesses (in the first quarter of 2022) that deal with activities related to holidays and leisure : from agri-food to tourist services, from personal care to recreational, cultural and entertainment activities, from bars, coffee and pastry shops to the administration of food and drinks, to get to transport, management of accommodation and sports facilities but also production and sale of jewelry, artistic crafts, clothing and footwear.

Thanks to the positive tourism trend recorded this year, the demand for goods and services generated by the hundreds of thousands of arrivals and millions of presences is growing for these productive realities. But this, according to Confartigianato, does not seem to be enough to fuel the birth of new businesses.

"In fact - the organization notes on the data of UnionCamere-InfoCamere 2022 - the absolute number of artisan companies that work with holidays has dropped from 6,574 in 2019 to 6,400 this year, which employ over 18 thousand employees. 1,519 activities are related to catering, 1,443 operate in the agri-food sector, 1,264 are manufacturing and service companies and 1,175 operate in transport and 439 gravitate towards fashion. In addition, 477 are bars and pastry shops, 67 cultural activities, 14 carry out communication activities and 2 are the accommodation facilities ".

According to Daniele Serra , regional secretary of Confartigianato Imprese Sardegna, "the triple Sardinia-tourism-handicraft brand must also act as a driving force for the birth of new artisan businesses. This can be done by continuing to invest and promote and, above all, by believing in it. As numerous territories throughout the island are already doing, it is very important to continue to focus on the experiential tourism market by encouraging it with appropriate economic support ".
