"These are defamations; I've endured them up until now in honor of press freedom. I've never reacted. Today, however, I declared that anyone who continues to write such things will be held accountable in court. There is no other way." This was announced by Giuseppe Conte, who found himself at the center of the crossfire over his handling of Covid.

"I can say one thing: we're now talking about the Brothers of Italy members who have occupied the Covid Commission and are using it shamelessly and disgracefully," added the leader of the Five Star Movement. "I'll just say one thing, though, to the Brothers of Italy members: since, as is well known, they're hiding behind parliamentary immunity, let them waive that immunity, they who are lions, lionesses. They who have a sense of honor, courage... and I'll see you in court."

In order to attack me, he emphasized, "they are stirring up mud, bringing up old lies about my supposed 'partners,' 'colleagues,' 'systems.' The mechanism they have constructed is always the same. Fratelli d'Italia representatives are irresponsibly exploiting the work of the Covid Commission (which FdI President Lisei himself called a 'circus') to insinuate a 'connection' between me, when I was Prime Minister, and lawyers supposedly linked to me who provided legal advice to companies that supplied or attempted to supply protective materials and equipment during the Covid period."
