The organization of the Giro d'Italia has decided to reintroduce the obligation to wear masks in areas where riders come into contact with other people.

This was announced by the director of the race, Mauro Vegni in Scandiano (Reggio Emilia), on the occasion of the first day of rest, after the case of positivity to Covid of the pink jersey, Remco Evenepoel, who retired.

There are no Covid protocols on the part of the organization or the International Cycling Union, the decision to stop positive cyclists is entirely up to the teams who have no obligations.

The decision of the Giro was taken as a form of protection for the participants.
