Cortellesi, another record: 19 David nominations for “There's Still Tomorrow”, then Garrone
The awards ceremony on May 3 on Rai1, red carpet at studio 5 in CinecittàAfter having hit the box office with There's Still Tomorrow, Paola Cortellesi also flies to the David di Donatello with a record number of nominations: 19 in the various categories, from screenplay to set design and actors. No debut film had ever had so many.
Following, in the list of films of the 69th edition of the David di Donatello announced today at the Rai headquarters in Viale Mazzini, Io Capitano by Matteo Garrone with 15 nominations, while 13 go to La Chimera by Alice Rohrwacher, 11 to Rapito by Marco Bellocchio and 10th Commander of Edoardo De Angelis. Again, Nanni Moretti's Sol dell'fuvenire with 7 nominations, while 5 go to both Adagio by Stefano Sollima and Palazzina LAF by Michele Riondino.
There's Still Tomorrow - one of the greatest successes ever of our cinema, which has grossed more than 36 million euros in Italy alone and continues to gain acclaim abroad - runs not only for best leading actor and actress , with Valerio Mastandrea and Paola Cortellesi herself, but also with four nominations in the supporting category with Emanuela Fanelli, Romana Maggiora Vergano, Giorgio Colangeli and Vinicio Marchioni.
On the best film front, two out of five are directed by a female director : again Cortellesi and Alice Rohrwacher who will clash with Nanni Moretti, Matteo Garrone and Marco Bellocchio. Same situation for the best directorial debut : Cortellesi and Micaela Ramazzotti challenging Giacomo Abruzzese (Disco Boy), Michele Riondino (Palazzina LAF) and Giuseppe Fiorello (Stranizza d'Amuri).
«It will be a record edition», comments Piera Detassis, resident and artistic director of the Accademia del Cinema Italiano . «We have worked a lot with the Ministry of Culture and with Rai for a ceremony that will take place on May 3rd from the legendary studio 5 of Cinecittà complete with a red carpet . Carlo Conti and Alessia Marcuzzi will host the live broadcast on Rai1, while Teresa Mannino will host the traditional ceremony at the Quirinale on 3 May."
«An important evening because not only the actors and directors but also the workers are celebrated», underlines Lucia Borgonzoni, undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, who then announced that Cinema Revolution, the campaign that gives the opportunity to attend in theaters with new releases of Italian, European and international films at the special price of 3.50 euros.
Returning to the Davids, here are the numbers for this edition: 171 Italian fiction feature films entered; 26 those directed by female directors; 61 first works; 138 documentaries and 495 short films.
