The Sinistra Futura candidate for the regional elections in Sardinia on 25 February, Maria Grazia Giordo, included in the list of "unpresentables" of the Anti-Mafia commission, signed a document today «in which not only does she apologize for what happened with the list, the coalition and the presidential candidate Alessandra Todde, but clearly suspends herself from the electoral competition."

Giordo, from Sassari, was sentenced in the first instance to seven years in prison for criminal association aimed at drug dealing: she is considered the cashier of a gang that from Sassari ran a cocaine trade hidden inside books.

«Sinistra Futura», we read in a note, «is and remains a guarantor but has deemed it appropriate, a few hours after the incident, to act in a clear and transparent manner in the face of a situation that awaits a clear judicial outcome. The candidate Maria Grazia Giordo, as required by law, was not obliged to communicate her situation. The leaders of Sinistra Futura verified, as required by law at the time of the candidacy, the criminal record which was devoid of any annotation".

But in the consideration «that in this historical and political moment more than ever there should be no shadows - in the desire to build a new project and have a new vision of Sardinia - we appreciate that the candidate has rightly suspended herself, giving a clear and strong signal of transparency . We are not aware that this is the practice at either a regional or national level. Therefore, we hope that the same action of the Future Left will also be carried forward by the other lists, which have had to face the same problem."
