The Region has asked Ita for an "integration of the documentation" for the assignment of the territorial continuity service for Sardinia.

This was communicated by the regional transport department, specifying that the delivery must take place by the morning of Thursday 7 October. "Following the examination of the documentation - reads a note from Villa Devoto - the administration will take the consequent decisions regarding the award procedure".

Meanwhile, Volotea has asked for the suspension of the effectiveness of the provision by which it was excluded from the tender for the territorial continuity of air due to "an alleged bureaucratic formality". The low-cost airline has appealed to the Sardinian TAR and, moreover, the carrier's lawyers are also working on a formal complaint that will be forwarded to the European Commission in Brussels.

For Volotea, the decision of the Region to exclude it from the tender infringes "the fundamental principles of national and European Union law on public bargaining and good administration performance, effectively eliminating all forms of competition between the two participants". The company explains in a note that it took part in the tender “presenting all 6 offers in order to guarantee, in the best possible way, territorial continuity with connections departing from the airports of Cagliari, Alghero and Olbia to Milan Linate and Rome Fiumicino. The carrier's offer, considerably lower than that presented by the other company in the tender, would allow an overall saving for the Region of Sardinia, and for its taxpayers, of approximately 3 million euros ”. And finally he underlines that, since the start of his activities, “he has invested in the Sardinian territory, offering the inhabitants of the island an ever-increasing number of routes with convenient timetables and competitive prices. In Sardinia there are 2 of the 7 Italian bases of the carrier, one in Cagliari and one in summer in Olbia: at these two airports, Volotea has allowed the creation of about 100 jobs, to support the local economic fabric ”.
