«We will not be able to stop the increases in flight fares in territorial continuity for long» .
Matteo Salvini 's words represent a severe blow to the Sardinians and to the new model of continuity, undermined by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the doubling of jet fuel prices, the fuel for airplanes that is increasingly expensive and increasingly limited in availability.
The Minister of Transport spoke during question time in the Chamber of Deputies to report on the increase in fuel prices and, in particular, the chreosene crisis and its repercussions on air transport.
"On flights to and from Sardinia, operators are pushing for upward price increases, as they are for other regional routes to Sicily, Marche, Calabria, and Friuli," Salvini said in response to a question from the Noi Moderati group. "Up to now, we've managed to block increases for residents, but under current regulations and European constraints, we won't be able to support airlines that require higher fares without raising ticket prices for much longer."
Regarding available fuel reserves, there are no problems until May, as several airlines and the airports themselves have emphasized: "We are not facing an emergency that jeopardizes flight safety or the continuity of the system; the country is holding up. Flight operations are guaranteed at least until the end of May, and we are also monitoring the supply chain to ensure the system continues to operate without interruption at least throughout the summer ."
However, the minister explained, "Italy is significantly dependent on foreign countries, therefore it is exposed to the dynamics of international markets and the repercussions of geopolitical tensions."
