Five Star Movement leader Giuseppe Conte arrived in Cagliari to tour the areas affected by Cyclone Harry and to attend a meeting this afternoon on the justice referendum. He did so two years after Alessandra Todde's election as regional president, at the most difficult time for the Campo largo party in Sardinia, given the clear split with the Democratic Party , which has twice consecutively failed to attend regional council meetings with its three councilors.
"We must take up the challenge of change," he told the microphones in the square in front of the Sant'Elia Lazzaretto. " Change can only begin with healthcare . I witnessed it during the election campaign, and here, services are a luxury for the few, for those with insurance or a credit card. Now we must prioritize competence over affiliation. Alessandra Todde is doing a great job. The Department of Health sees the primary responsibility as the M5S and the president, who will be able to harmonize by listening to the legitimate demands of all coalition forces , but with the understanding that there is a responsibility to the citizens that must guide us all."
On this point, Todde reiterated that "this vision of a progressive camp born in Sardinia must be defended. We have a duty to the citizens who elected us: to uphold and be consistent with the electoral program. The regional secretary of the Democratic Party said there is no political issue. So I say: since there is no political issue, let's focus on the priorities for the Sardinians . I have asked the two regional and national secretariats to hold a meeting, which I will then summarize , but we must all remember that the citizens believed in a different project, and we must commit to this. I am not interested in appointments and positions; I believe they do not interest the citizens or the PD base, whose values we share. It is important at this time to defend and respect a department that is under the aegis of the M5S." Then, he clarified in conclusion, " if there are differences, I want to hear them on the programs; appointments do not interest me ." Also because I believe that nothing has changed from a legal point of view since December 31st."
