«For four years they did nothing, now that they are leaving they come up with a plan every day» .
Giuseppe Conte launches the challenge to Giorgia Meloni from the stage of the M5S regional assembly in Oristano .
"Now you're developing ideas, you're throwing out suggestions for future reference. Thank you, we'll take care of it. We have lots of ideas, thank you for the suggestions, but you have to implement them within four years, not announce them at the end of the legislature," is the message sent by the former prime minister.
Conte calls the government "incompetent." "And we're paying for this incompetence; citizens, families, and businesses are paying for it. In four years, there's not even a hint of an industrial plan, a tsunami is hitting us, and the Prime Minister boasts about records . But it doesn't work that way. Because those who live the reality of daily life and society see it every day, they see that we can't make it to the end of the month, they see how inflation is soaring. And it's not just a problem of energy costs, but a problem we already have in Italy—low growth—and for which they haven't taken any action."
The horizon is the 2027 general election: "For us , it's not just important to be in government, but to be there to change the country . Under certain conditions, which means a clear and shared program, which can only be radical. But it's not enough for us to write a text and throw it out there; what we write are objectives to protect the interests of citizens, and it will be our bond, which we will sign in blood and protect at all costs."
The eventual governing team is also important: "It has to be reliable , otherwise you won't get anywhere. We won't just leave and see what happens later. Because we'll say 'we'll see what happens later,' as certain old-fashioned politicians have it. If anything changes, then you'll go it alone. We won't put our face on the line anymore. We did it because there was a pandemic going on. We gave ."
On the war in Ukraine: "Europe is silent on the conflict; they've gambled on military victory. Unfortunately, the failure is evident; all the catastrophe predictions in Russia have failed to materialize, from economic collapse to regime change and so on. All we have left is the negotiating breakthrough we've been calling for from the beginning. Russian delegates were already sitting in Istanbul the day after the aggression, and now Putin has even said so publicly. A month has passed, and we can't find a negotiator to send to that table. Do you understand the damned situation our European leaders are in today?"
