Andrea Compagno's arrival in the national team was one of the most discussed topics in the stands on Sunday at the Frogheri during the match won by Nuorese against Tharros 3-0. The Palermo striker called up by Roberto Mancini for the next matches of the European Championships wore the green-blue jacket in 2017, under the presidency of Michele Artedino.
The former patron remembers him fondly: «He was reported to us as an excellent striker, unfortunately in Nuoro he wasn't very incisive and had little luck, but it was clear that he had technique and above all the desire to arrive. He was very attentive to nutrition, he obsessed with training, today all of this has paid off by reaching his goals. I just have to congratulate him and wish him good luck, hoping that this is just the beginning of a series of important goals for his career».
In that brief interlude he scored 15 appearances and only one goal for Nuorese who were relegated from Serie D that season. A short and certainly not decisive passage for the twenty-seven-year-old forward who nevertheless left a good memory among the Verdazzurri fans, happy with his summons. After the interlude in Barbagia, Compagno's career was always on the rise: first in San Marino where he scored 37 goals in 41 games, then in Romania, where he still plays for Steaua Bucharest with 17 goals out of 29 appearances. That served to attract the attention of coach Mancini.
