With the last minute shopping rush over the weekend , Italians' spending on 2023 Christmas gifts to put under the tree for themselves or others rises to around 8 billion , up 6% compared to last year.

This is what emerges from a Coldiretti/Ixe' survey which highlights that there are just over 2 million "latecomers" looking for the right idea to give to relatives or friends in the last weekend before Christmas.

A majority of 32% - underlines Coldiretti - decided to contain the budget below the 100 euro threshold, while 38% reaches up to 200 euros and another 12% goes up to 300 euros. But there is also 11% who spend between 300 and 500 euros, 2% who spend up to 1000 and a very small minority of 1% who exceed 2000 euros, while 4% prefer not to reveal their spending.

The places for last-minute shopping are almost exclusively shopping centres, shops and markets while - Coldiretti notes - the online channel suffers from strong doubts about the fact that what is purchased may not arrive in time for Christmas.

Alongside the traditional shopping places, a success - continues Coldiretti - has been recorded in the last few hours by the markets that are multiplying in cities and holiday resorts. An option that often guarantees the possibility of finding gifts with 'guaranteed originality' at the right price.

It is also confirmed - Coldiretti notes - a push towards useful gifts . An orientation that rewards nutrition with the search for zero-kilometer local products to be purchased directly from the producer for the preparation of holiday lunches and dinners.

«In the farmers' markets of Campagna Amica - concludes Coldiretti - various initiatives have been planned, from the preparation of do-it-yourself food and wine baskets to the tutor of traditional regional desserts who guides the preparation and purchase of the ingredients but also ad hoc exhibitions» .
