Every Sardinian this year will spend around 119 euros on Christmas gifts.

The figures are those estimated by the Confcommercio research office . Despite the economic uncertainties due to the increase in prices, the average Italian expenditure is instead around 157 euros. According to the research, the average consumption of thirteenth graders on the island reaches 1,165 euros. In the rest of the country they fall to 1,532 euros, from 1,680 in 2021, thus reaching the minimum levels for 15 years. The data also reveal that only 42.3% of Sardinians are inclined to do Christmas shopping, while the Italian average is around 41.7%.

"Last year trade was affected by the pandemic, this year families and traders have to deal with expensive energy , the good news is that purchases are returning to neighborhood shops ", explains Giuseppe Scura, director of Confcommercio Sud Sardinia , «the holidays will still be an opportunity to give shop owners a breath of fresh air while waiting for the winter sales ».

The results of a survey on Christmas 2022 consumption carried out by Confcommercio Imprese for Italy in collaboration with Format research reveal that food and wine products are confirmed at the top of the list of the most popular gifts (70%), followed by toys (49 %), books and ebooks (48%), clothing (47%), personal care products (41%) and those for animals (+8.4%).
