Between Christmas and New Year's, 11.5 million Italians will travel to spend the holidays away from home, with cities, mountains and countryside at the top of the list of the most popular destinations. And one in five intends to spend them within their own region.

This is what emerges from a Coldiretti/Ixe survey which highlights a recovery in departures compared to last year, when inflation had weighed on families' pockets.

The average travel expenditure per person during the Christmas holidays will be 674 euros, an increase of 12% compared to last year. The average length of the holiday extends to six days, with 23% of holidaymakers spending a maximum of three days away from home, 49% from four to seven days, 21% from eight to fifteen days, and the remaining 7% even more.

The preferred accommodation solution for holidays is second homes or the homes of relatives and friends, indicated by 44% of holidaymakers, while those who do not have free accommodation at their disposal rely on hotels, bed and breakfasts and agritourisms.

Precisely in view of the holidays, Coldiretti notes, agritourism facilities have enriched their offerings with innovative services designed for sports enthusiasts, tradition enthusiasts, the curious and ecologists, but also with cultural activities, in addition to wellness and hiking experiences. There is also no shortage of initiatives related to Christmas, such as cooking classes to learn how to prepare typical holiday specialties.

But in the almost 26 thousand structures spread throughout the national territory, based on the Campagna Amica Terranostra analysis, phenomena such as wine tourism, beer tourism or oil tourism are growing more and more, capable of attracting a growing number of enthusiasts even during the holidays. The clear confirmation of the fact that food remains the main driver of the holiday, reaching over a third of the total expenditure, between meals and food and wine souvenirs.
