The aim is to stimulate a love for this discipline among young people and also to select the Italian team to participate in the international Olympics.

A student of the Oristano scientific school, Andrea Zoncu , finished second in the regional final of the 2023 Chemistry Games which took place last Saturday 29 April.

Zoncu, from Riola Sardo, attends the fourth class of the "Mariano IV d'Arborea" scientific sports high school.

On Saturday morning, 13 May, he will be awarded in the Monserrato University Citadel by the managers of the Italian Chemical Society who have been organizing the event for years.

«We are very happy with the results achieved by our students - comments the scientific high school teacher Stefano Pusceddu - Opportunities like these are useful because they represent a different way of approaching and discussing the subjects that are studied , and give way to explore topics that are not always treated during the year. Unfortunately this year too the institute test and the regional one were held online, but the experience lived by the students was very important for the global maturation and the growth of the competitive spirit».

The Chemistry Games are organized annually thanks to the patronage of the Ministry of Education and Merit . They foresee an institute phase and a regional one by categories. Then the respective winners will participate in the national phase. Following the results, the national winner will be proclaimed and the national Olympic team will be selected. The latter will be prepared by university teachers and researchers and taken to the venue chosen for the International Olympics in July. The Chemistry Games were born in 1984 in Veneto on the initiative of the University of Padua, and remained a regional event for three years. Since 1987 they have become a national event.
