Shouts, shoving and chaos in the Budget and Constitutional Affairs committees in the House. And the government comes out of it, taking four defeats on as many amendments.
All issues of weight, ranging from Ilva to animal testing, from the increase in the ceiling of usable cash to the school rankings.
Not exactly an accident, so much so that Mario Draghi summons the majority heads of delegation for a scrutiny that sounds like an ultimatum: "Either you guarantee me the votes or so the government cannot go on," he said in essence.
The premier, who had just landed from the plane after the Brussels European Council, went up to Colle. Recalled by Mattarella, it is underlined: to report on the Ukrainian crisis of course, but also to talk about the strong fibrillation in the majority that could gradually increase with the approach of the 2023 political elections. And that worry the Head of State.
Everything ends with a reference to the majority parties, with Draghi asking for "an immediate clarification". Also recalling the reason why he was brought to Palazzo Chigi and underlining that he accepted "to do things".

As if that were not enough, the executive also went under the rule that extended animal testing for only six months. The approved amendment, with the government's opinion to the contrary, extended the trial until 1 July 2025.
Giancarlo Giorgetti sums up the chaos perfectly: "If the group leaders do not control the parties it is serious, but if they control them and this result is desired it is worse".
