Soru-Todde, face to face skipped: exchange of accusations between centre-left candidates
The owner of Tiscali: "You made the meeting public, let's meet in the hotel and via streaming, not at my house." The candidate from the broad field: «We wanted to avoid the comparison. Muscle tests are of no use to the Sardinians, I am available for dialogue"Per restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
Nothing face to face. The confrontation scheduled for today at noon between Alessandra Todde, candidate for the presidency of the Region for the broad field, and her centre-left rival, Renato Soru, has been cancelled. The two had arranged to meet to seek an agreement, or something similar, in view of the elections, to avoid appearing divided. The location should have been Soru's home, in Bonaria, Cagliari. But everything fell through.
This morning the note arrived from the entourage of the owner of Tiscali. «The Soru-Todde meeting will be held at 12pm on Thursday 16 November at the Regina Margherita hotel, in the presence of the press and in live streaming. No longer at the home of Renato Soru, who had accepted the meeting requested by Alessandra Todde, which arrived last Tuesday, "confidential and urgent"". In short, Soru would have preferred that no one knew about his availability for dialogue with Todde. «Surprisingly she», comments Soru, «then decided, on her own, to make the meeting public and anticipate her position very clearly, during a television interview. Now my house is no longer the right place for a meeting that has become public", adds the former president of the Region, "and for this reason this morning I communicated to Alessandra Todde the need to move the meeting place to a of the Regina Margherita hotel, which I have already booked. I also proposed that the meeting, for total transparency, be open to the presence of journalists, and in live streaming."
Todde's response arrived shortly after: «In recent days I proposed a private meeting to Renato Soru as a gesture of openness and the start of a dialogue to lead a common battle, to defeat the right and relaunch Sardinia», we read in a note, "we take note of the unshared choice to move the appointment to the last moment - transforming it into a public debate - and therefore effectively avoiding the discussion".
For Todde «today's private meeting was aimed at opening a dialogue and hypothesizing a shared path for Sardinia, working on common strategies. We remain available, as today and as always reiterated in these days, to reconstitute a dialogue with the delicacy and confidentiality necessary for the collective interest".
From openness to message: «Muscle tests that choose conflicting and closed paths are of no use to the Sardinians, much less to Sardinia. It is the moment of We and not of the I."
The centre-left pieces seem distant again. Soru showed up at the meeting place, Todde will meet the press in Piazza Garibaldi, also in Cagliari.
