In about two weeks, on June 30, Cagliari cycling enthusiasts will have one more reason to go to Poetto and attend the 4.7 km time trial that opens the Giro d'Italia for women .

The blue cyclists continue to win and are candidates to be protagonists of the stage race, something not entirely successful for men. The 24-year-old from Cremona Marta Cavalli , who during the spring had been able to obtain two very prestigious successes in the female version of Amstel Gold Race and Freccia Vallone, won the Mont Ventoux Denivele Challenges, a 100 km French road race with finish on top of the legendary “bald giant” of Provence.

A few days earlier, in Great Britain, another iconic athlete of our pink cycling, Elisa Longo Borghini , had conquered the queen stage and the final classification of the Women's Tour, after having already established herself on the cobblestones of the Paris-Roubaix.

Both will be part of the very rich cast of the Giro d'Italia which will start from Cagliari and which also includes Villasimius-Tortolì (1 July) and Cala Gonone-Olbia (2 July) as stops on the island.

A cast that, in addition to the world champion Elisa Balsamo (3 successes in 2022) and the former world champion Marta Bastianelli (4 times to score this year), will include the best athletes in the world.
