It was started by Christian Speziga, president of the cultural association Nuovi Orizzonti per CastelsardoA centuries-old olive tree bearing witness to a process of conservation of the natural and historical heritage of Castelsardo , achieved thanks to the conclusion of the investigation by the Forestry and Environmental Surveillance Corps (Cfva) which involved the monumental tree in the hamlet of Multeddu – S. Giovanni in Salasciu locality.
The recognition process was initiated by Christian Speziga, president of the cultural association Nuovi Orizzonti per Castelsardo , who enthusiastically commented: «Report made, feedback obtained for the imposing olive tree, with a circumference of 4.50 meters and a Height of almost 15 metres, it is located just 30 meters from the historic country church of S. Maria di Salasciu, documented since 1321 and belonging to the medieval settlement of Salasciu in the Curatoria of Anglona, Giudicato of Torres and ancient Diocese of Ampurias» .
The placement of the plant, an Olea europea, among the monumental trees of Italy takes on significant importance for the protection and valorisation of the internal territory of Castelsardo, considered "a significant landscape, monumental, historical and cultural value". According to President Speziga «the next step is up to the Municipality which, once it has received the documentation, must make its own proposal to include the registered tree. An act that must be sent to the writing inspectorate service and to the technical and supervisory service of the general management of the Cfva".
