Calling someone "bimbominkia" on the Internet is aggravated defamation. This was stated in a sentence by the Court of Cassation. The term cannot be used on social media because it defines "a person with a below average IQ", explain the judges.

Furthermore, if the epithet is used on a Facebook group with over 2 thousand members, the crime of aggravated defamation is triggered.

The Supreme Court ruling concerns Enrico Rizzi, an animal rights activist from Trapani who was the victim of the offense. Rizzi himself had been convicted of the offenses against the President of the Regional Council Diego Moltrer, defined as a "coward", "infamous" and "murderer" after his death due to his passion for hunting. Then a friend of Molter's called Rizzi "bimbominkia" and was in turn convicted.

The term "bimbominkia" is used on the web to define a person who behaves in a stupid and childish way on social media. Who intervenes, in an annoying and often offensive way towards others, in all discussions. Often and willingly also showing a lack of cultural depth and poor language skills.
