An award in memory of Carlo Mazzone on the first anniversary of his death, which occurred on 19 August 2023 in Ascoli Piceno, was established by the family of the late Roman coach, who was adopted by Ascoli.

The family, who have always lived in Ascoli Piceno, announced the news today to Ansa, announcing that in 2024 the award will be given to two coaches, Claudio Ranieri, for his career, and to Pep Guardiola, who was a pupil of Mazzone, for the extraordinary results achieved so far.

The "Carlo Mazzone Award" will be presented to Guardiola and Ranieri during a ceremony based on the commitments of the two coaches. Mazzone passed away on August 19, 2023 at the age of 86. The one who paved the way for his career as a coach was the 'presidentissimo' of Ascoli Calcio Costantino Rozzi, the first to entrust him with a bench between 1968 and 1969, after a serious injury had interrupted his career as a footballer. Mazzone, who in those years started a family in Ascoli Piceno, led the black and white team first from Serie C to Serie B and then to the historic first Serie A championship that the black and whites played in the '74/75 season. In his career he also coached Fiorentina, Catanzaro, Bologna, Lecce, Pescara, Cagliari, Roma, Napoli, Perugia, Brescia, Livorno.

On October 30, 2022, the Municipality of Ascoli Piceno awarded him honorary citizenship during an event at the Ventidio Basso theater, Carlo Mazzone's last public appearance.
