Carbonia's impressive victory against Atletico Uri in the Eccellenza league does nothing to alleviate the club's problems linked to a serious economic crisis, so much so that the players, despite demonstrating enormous professionalism as they did yesterday, are demanding back wages.
In a statement released today, current president Andrea Meloni, in office since last summer, accuses his predecessor, Stefano Canu, of having left behind past-due debts that, in his view, would not have been technically possible to discover immediately and that would only be disclosed later by the new management team that took over in July 2025. Meloni's response was swift, claiming the statements were untrue and misleading, and that part of the old management team, now in office, had always signed off on all documents related to the financial statements.
Without salary recognition, the risk on paper is that the club will be placed in default, which could even finish the tournament in seventh place.
