Five days of cinema, encounters, and cross-fertilization between artistic languages: the Carbonia Film Festival returns from November 11th to 15th to the historic mining town of Sulcis. Promoted by the Carbonia Cultural Services Center of the Società Umanitaria, with artistic direction by Francesco Giai Via , the event renews its commitment to cinema that interrogates the present, connects personal and collective stories, and transforms viewing into an opportunity for encounter.
The programme features five Italian titles in competition accompanied by meetings with the authors: White Lies by Alba Zari , Idda by Irene Dionisio , Balcanica by Nicola Sorcinelli , I figli della scimmia by Tommaso Landucci , and Caro mondo crudele by Niccolò Falsetti and Francesco Turbanti .
"Since its first edition in 1999, held under a different name, the event has successfully combined a variety of factors that transform longevity into a genuine value," explains Paolo Serra, director of the Società Umanitaria in Sardinia. "Among these, the close relationship with the local area stands out: the bond with the local community has become so deep that citizens have come to recognize the event as an essential component of their cultural pride."
Out of competition, Palestinian-Syrian director Abdallah Al-Khatib will present Chronicles from the Siege , and Marco Amenta will present the preview of Odio gli indifferenti . The closing event, featuring music and words, returns as usual with Dimartino , the protagonist of an exclusive performance for the festival, accompanied on stage by Fabrizio Cammarata.
This edition combines continuity and innovation, thanks in part to the festival's new visual identity, entrusted to the art direction of directors Valentina and Nicole Bertani, who won the 2025 festival.
All events will be free and will be held between the Fabbrica del Cinema, in the shadow of the Grande Miniera di Serbariu, and the Cine Teatro Centrale, in Piazza Roma, with excursions to the Coal Museum and the Palazzetto dello Sport.
