He had already managed to force the first door, the external one, of the Lidl shopping center with a knife. He was heading towards the second one when the decisive and unexpected reaction of an employee did not force him to flee. A few minutes later Valentino Vacca, 35 years old from Nuxis, was arrested by the Carabinieri on charges of attempted robbery and unjustified possession of weapons. Yesterday morning in court at the end of the summary hearing the judge validated the arrest and set the terms for the defense (with the obligation to sign) until the day of the trial.

The assault

The attack (not new: it is the third in a few years) against the Lidl in via Dalmazia took place on Monday shortly after 9:30 p.m. when the shopping center was already closed to the public but the employees were taking care of the last bureaucratic tasks. It was at that moment that the 35-year-old arrived from the internal parking lot. He was in possession of a knife. The man apparently managed to force the first sliding door, the outer one, but fortunately the staff who were still inside the store noticed everything. One of the employees therefore courageously headed towards the second door and, by intimidating him, managed to prevent Valentino Vacca from entering, who was also armed, into the store. At that point the man, perhaps surprised, apparently turned around and headed towards an adjacent street but by then the phone call to the Carabinieri operations center had already been made. The Radiomobile military tracked him down after a few minutes not far from the supermarket and stopped him.

The arrest

Valentino Vacca was arrested on charges of attempted robbery and unjustified possession of weapons or objects capable of causing offence. Danger averted, but it is certainly not the first time that the Via Dalmazia shopping centre has experienced similar moments of apprehension. It had already happened about 4 years ago when a man showed up at the cash register brandishing a billhook.
