"Gigi Buffon made me fall in love with the role, the gloves, the responsibilities. And the national team is the fulfillment of a dream I've had since I was a child: but it's a starting point, not an end point."

In an interview with Vivo Azzurro TV, Elia Caprile described the emotions of his first call-up to Gattuso's Italy squad , which will face Moldova and Norway in the final two World Cup qualifiers. He deservedly earned the call-up with a series of saves, proving himself to be one of the best goalkeepers in Serie A this early in the season.

"I got here through sacrifice," says the Cagliari goalkeeper, born in 2001 and soon to be a father. "I wasn't expecting the call-up, it was a nice surprise, and the first person I told was my girlfriend ."

Caprile talks about his past and calls his experience at Leeds during the Covid period "fundamental" : " It opened my mind, forced me to adapt to different situations, a new language I didn't know, I'm very happy I did it . I remember all the coaches I've had, Nicola, Conte, now Pisacane. Bielsa and that first call-up to the Premier League that you won't forget."

The goalkeeper doesn't skimp on his family: "Without my parents, I wouldn't be the person I am, nor the goalkeeper I am, and I wouldn't have made the national team." Caprile also talks about his brief stint at Napoli and his departure to join Cagliari: "I train to play. If I don't have a game, I suffer a lot. I like responsibility. I left Napoli because I didn't see a way to play, and I'm happy to have arrived in Cagliari . I have a long way to go and a lot to learn. I'm not even halfway there yet."

Another of the goalkeeper's great passions is the piano: "I've been struggling to play lately. My girlfriend is pregnant, and I'm going to be a father soon. These are special days because she's due soon, and I've received a call-up to the national team. His name will be Edoardo, and I hope he waits a few days. I'll be happy if I'm a good father."
