The celebrations at the Garibaldi Compendium of Caprera on the occasion of the 140th anniversary of the death of Giuseppe Garibaldi , which took place on the island in 1882, are scheduled for June 2, starting at 10:30.

To do the honors will be Luana Toniolo , director of the Regional Directorate of Museums of Sardinia, and Luciano Cannas , director of the Garibaldi Museums in Caprera, who, in the presence of civil and military authorities, will lead the ceremony of deposition of the crowns at the tomb of 'Hero of Two Worlds.

Afterwards, visitors will be able to get to know and admire, for the first time, a significant temporary exhibition of books , taken from the rich collection that belonged to the General, an inexhaustible source of interesting readings, now visible in the new Library set up and organized through a recent enhancement project. . Among the works on display there is also a selection of English volumes , Masonic magazines , treatises on astronomy, mathematics and science, specialized texts in agriculture, hydraulics and beekeeping and, above all, the Divine Comedy illustrated by the well-known French engraver Gustave Doré, one of the last works read from Garibaldi who in his last days of life wanted close, next to his bed.

On the same day, the boats that belonged to Giuseppe Garibaldi and his son Manlio , in the space dedicated to them, will be at the center of a photo gallery that proposes a series of vintage views and illustrations of Caprera, taken from the photographic collection of the museum, and of the many contemporary photographic shots, with some views of the Garibaldi Museums, photographed from the sea, and above all some glimpses of Cala Garibaldi , the inlet where the boats of the hero of the two worlds were once moored.

With the enhancement of the exhibition spaces, through a strong visual impact, the public will be involved in an original path that gives emotions, in a mix between past and present , in the places and landscapes of Caprera marked and strongly marked by the presence of Giuseppe Garibaldi.
