A legal battle costing nearly half a billion euros . And concern for the fate of the upcoming firefighting season in Sardinia (and beyond). Uncertainty reigns, and lawyers are busy with the tender for the management of the national fleet's Canadair aircraft, announced by the Ministry of the Interior and annulled by the Council of State .
The second-instance administrative judges not only rejected the award to Avincis , the industry giant that was supposed to provide firefighting services for the fleet's 18 aircraft. The ruling on the appeal filed by the competing company, Air Sp&A, has undermined the entire tender process. The service was awarded in January 2025, the legal dispute was resolved at the end of December, and now a new ruling is pending: the winning company, with a motion for compliance, still before the Council of State, is demanding that the ministry acknowledge the (unappealable) ruling and enforce it. It would mean that no one would be able to fly the Canadairs. With summer just around the corner, it would be a disaster .
