After announcing indefinite retirement from the cinema in 2018 to focus fully on her private company and family, Hollywood star Cameron Diaz makes a surprising return to the stage alongside Jaime Foxx in the film directed by Seth Gordon “Back in Action” , exclusively for Netflix.

Considered one of the most successful American performers of the nineties and early 2000s, the actress kicked off her career with the blockbuster “The Mask”, leaving viewers with the indelible memory of her pas de deux with the hilarious Jim Carrey . From her first big success and the explosion of fame that followed, came collaborations with the Farrelly Brothers in “There’s Something About Mary” and other roles of dramatic depth such as those seen in “Being John Malkovich” and “Vanilla Sky” ; without obviously forgetting one of her most challenging performances: the one seen in “Gangs of New York” by Martin Scorsese.

More than a decade after her role in Will Gluck's "Annie," Diaz is currently busy promoting the release of her next film: after the cancellation of the New York premiere due to the fires that broke out in Los Angeles, "Back in Action" found space during a substantial preview in Berlin, in which the two leading actors took an active part. Mixing action, comedy and spy intrigue, the film deals with the adventures of Emily and Matt, two parents who behind normal appearances hide a past as CIA agents.

After some time away from the secret services to devote themselves to the home, their cover will suddenly blow, forcing them to don the role of spies again: but does that mean that going back to being an infiltrator can't be exciting as well as a shake-up to the normal daily routine? Even high-risk missions, however, can be a disgrace compared to the needs that children require.

Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz themselves delved into this aspect in interviews given during the promotion. On this aspect, Diaz expressed the following considerations: “The funny thing is that when kids are young, you are their whole world. And you get used to them wanting to be with you all the time, wanting to spend time with you. For them, you are the best thing ever! You are everything. And then, all of a sudden, they don't want you around anymore. It hurts, it breaks your heart, it's like a separation from the love of your life”.

And tying in with what happens to the characters in “Back in Action,” he adds: “It’s like our characters get something that all parents wish they could have, that moment where their kids see them as extraordinary people again. I hope this movie allows that between parents and kids, if they watch it together, that it makes kids ask: Who were you? So that parents can reveal a little bit of who they are.”

Also during press conferences, Diaz did not miss the opportunity to address the debates that question public opinion. In a video interview with Complex, the actress took a swipe at Donald Trump, stating that the real president of the United States, in her opinion, would be Elon Musk . The sarcastic comment comes from the fact that the CEO of Tesla and Space X has paid astronomical sums to support the election campaign, to the point of stealing the scene even from the candidate in the running. Instead, expressing a point of view on the uncontrolled development of technology, she stated: “If you think about where we are right now in technology: we sit in front of a screen, we don’t talk to each other, we don’t have to talk. And we all know that we are moving away from the planet because now Elon Musk is our president.”

As for the possibility of a more permanent return to Hollywood, Diaz gave a comment to Empire without completely ruling out the possibility, but making the appropriate clarifications: “It’s hard to say. If I say it then it becomes real. I reserve the right to say yes only if I decide to do it. I’m not working on anything right now. I’m just open to whatever makes sense for me and my family at any time. No more romantic comedies, just mom comedies.”
