One of the most popular events in the freezing Parisian winterIt is one of the most popular events in the freezing Parisian winter. At the Musée d'Orsay (the old station transformed into an exhibition space by Gae Aulenti) the impressionist painter Gustave Caillebotte (1848-1894) is being appropriately celebrated until January 19th with the exhibition dedicated to him entitled “Caillebotte. Painting Men”.
A genius who observes reality through the lens of a new sensibility. He introduces unusual figures into painting, such as the urban worker, the man on the balcony, the athletes or the naked man in the intimacy of the bathroom.
Caillebotte leaves his unmistakable mark on the field of Impressionism. The exhibition benefits from the recent acquisition of two important paintings by the J. Paul Getty Museum ( Young Man at a Window ) and the Musée d'Orsay ( Part of a Boat ). Gustave Caillebotte's masterpiece, Street in Paris in a Rainy Weather , is on display from the Art Institute of Chicago. The focus is on around 70 works, including the most important figure paintings, as well as pastels, drawings, photographs and documents that offer, through painting, a glimpse of the City of Light in the second half of the 19th century.
