A site for the recovery, conservation and enhancement of Villa Tigellio in Cagliari: the works will last about seven months. The aim is to reopen the Roman complex to the public , making the visiting routes safe.
The object of investigations from the second half of the nineteenth century until the 1990s, Villa Tigellio, consisting of three rich domus and a thermal building, dating back to between the 1st century BC and the 6th-7th century AD , was distinguished by its rich decoration including polychrome mosaics (now in the National Archaeological Museum of Cagliari), stuccoes and frescoes on the walls.
The reopening project was created in collaboration between the Superintendency and the Municipality of Cagliari and includes the safety measures, the restoration of the wall structures and the archaeological excavation of some intact sections . The planned activities also include the reclamation of vegetation, the control and regulation of rainwater to limit the effects of increasingly violent atmospheric events. Particular care will be taken in data collection also through the use of the most advanced technologies (laser scanner, Lidar, etc.).
Thanks to additional regional funds, it will be possible to intervene in the complete reorganization of the visit routes and in the redevelopment of the building at the entrance. From the initial stages of the construction site, the Municipality and the Superintendence will try to open the site to the public - in safe conditions - to tell the story of the work in progress .
