"Our neighborhood has become the city's garbage dump: people come from all over Cagliari to dump their garbage here. We are submerged! The City should send bulldozers and install cameras." The anger of residents explodes in San Michele, tired of living with waste, rats and cockroaches. The situation is also unsustainable from a health point of view. In the streets Podgora, La Somme, Laghi Masuri, Premuda, Ardenne, Carnia, Bosco Cappuccio the sidewalks are impassable: overflowing bins and unbearable stench. The same scenario in Piazza Medaglia Miracolosa. There is also disruption at the beginning of Via Timavo, another critical point where landfills often form.
" Living in a working-class neighborhood doesn't mean being uncivilized ," vents Rita Spiga, 60, resident in via La Somme, "I bought my house, I pay the Tari and I recycle , so I have the right to live in a clean street, like via Milano or viale Diaz." But hers is not the only voice, which joins that of many other residents in the same situation. Some also point the finger at the streets, where "the asphalt is in pieces and the street cleaning machine has never been seen."
The Municipality has already urged the company that manages the waste contract to carry out further visits in the area, while waiting to "face the problem with courage and in a shared manner".
