Cagliari won 3-1 in their first pre-season friendly. In Temù, amidst a downpour that caused several problems during the first half, the Rossoblù defeated Serie C side Ospitaletto Franciacorta.

Cagliari initially started with a 3-5-2 formation : Caprile; Zappa, Wieteska, Obert; Zortea, Adopo, Liteta, Deiola, Idrissi; Luvumbo, Piccoli. Eight minutes and four seconds later, the first goal of the season was scored by Zito Luvumbo, who, after a back-heel from Zortea, entered the area from the center-right and, after holding off an opponent's counterattack, beat Sonzogni . But the Rossoblu's lead lasted about eighty seconds, as Ospitaletto responded immediately, and with a touch from Bertoli that cut through the Cagliari defense, Gobbi found himself alone in front of Caprile and beat him with the help of the post.

After two chances for Cagliari, including a fine save from Sonzogni on Piccoli, Ospitaletto had a great chance to take the lead with a sort of moving penalty from Gobbi (27') that sent the ball wide to Caprile's left. Meanwhile, the rain, which had been present since the start of the match, increased in intensity and became a real summer downpour .

The score went from a possible 1-2 to 2-1 in just a few minutes, with Deiola heading home a header from Idrissi in the 33rd minute to put the Rossoblu back in front . Two minutes later, Piccoli made it three, diving to head in a Zappa cross.

The first half of Cagliari-Ospitaletto ended—inevitably—without added time, with the many fans present at the start of the match in the stands of the Comunale stadium in Temù deciding to move to shelter from the deluge . After a longer-than-usual break, waiting for the weather to improve, play resumed with the Rossoblù on the pitch with the following starting lineup and a switch to a 4-3-3: Radunović; Di Pardo, Wieteska, Veroli, Idrissi; Cavuoti, Marin, Rog; Felici, Borrelli, Vinciguerra.

Cavuoti had a good chance in the 72nd minute, returning from loan. He fired a confident shot from the edge of the six-yard box after a deflected cross, but Nessi was able to block it, tipping it over the crossbar. He denied the midfielder what seemed like a sure goal. There weren't many opportunities in the second half, with Sulev and Trepy coming on for Cavuoti and Vinciguerra . Trepy tested the opposing goalkeeper in the closing stages, turning in a free kick from Marin. The Romanian called up Raffaelli for a fine save in the 90th minute, again from a set piece, this time from the left. The final whistle was blown. Cagliari have a rest day tomorrow; training will resume on Monday.
