A project that brings the meeting between jazz and rap from the consoles to analogue , with an energy reminiscent of funk, rock and fusion: this Saturday the Teatro Massimo in Cagliari will host Studio Murena for the last date of the tour dedicated to " Notturno ", the new album released on May 9th and once again acclaimed by critics and fans.
Starting at 9:30 PM, the theater's wooden stage will feature an experiment born in 2018 when three musicians fresh out of the conservatory teamed up with a rapper. This experiment has since been continued and refined over the years, but never smoothed out the right edges, resulting in a sound that's both scathing and smoky, where neither jazz nor hip hop sound as usual. Today, Studio Murena features six musicians, with Lorenzo "Carma" Carminati 's rap playing over the complex (but never overbearing) soundscapes developed by Amedeo Nan (guitar), Matteo Castiglioni (keyboards, synth), Giovanni Ferrazzi (electronics, sampler), Maurizio Gazzola (bass), and Marco Falcon (drums).
With their self-titled studio debut that attracted a lot of attention in 2021, the sextet earned multiple appearances at the main independent music festivals on the peninsula, leading to a signing first with Virgin Records, with which they released " WadiruM " (2023), and then with Universal with the album released this year, " Notturno ". Staying true to their signature formula, Studio Murena have teamed up with numerous collaborators, including Willie Peyote , Fabrizio Bosso , Mezzosangue and producer Tommaso Colliva , and have stepped up their rap game, especially hardcore, and also increased their electronic touches. The result is a direct and introspective album, walking the line between the band's recent experiences and the collective experiences of recent years, and recently followed by some bonus tracks , with guests Francesca Michielin and Jack The Smoker .
