“We want certainties or we won't leave here”.

The anger of the employees of the contracts of the Municipality of Cagliari made itself felt this morning with all its strength at the entrance of Palazzo Bacaredda. They are the workers of the civic school of music in via Venezia, of the car removal service, the gardeners of the Public Gardens and the caretakers of the gym in via Mandrolisai. Since new companies took over a few months ago and won the contracts for the management of these services, their salaries and working hours have been halved.

A group of workers blocked the traffic for a few minutes: “Mayor Truzzu, come down and talk to us”, they shouted. At one point the gate was closed after demonstrators attempted to enter. "When auction discounts are made, it is always the workers who pay", says Luca Locci, regional secretary of the basic general union: "For 11 years there have never been problems because they have always been employees of type b social cooperatives , therefore more protected ".

Walter Manno, 52, has been working in the car removal service for 31 years: “We are not paid for nights and holidays and now we are asked to wait for calls directly at home. We will have to be on call for 10 consecutive hours. The situation will be difficult, when we will be called for an intervention, we will have to dress and run to the depot. We want to go back to performing the service in the depot ”.

Matteo Piga is a gardener at the Public Gardens: 29 years old and 350 euros less in paychecks: “Unpaid overtime and holidays. I take about 1,100 euros a month, before 1,400. I have an autistic child and I spend € 1,350 per month on specialist visits, rent and utilities ”. The councilor for Green Giorgio Angius asked them to put all the requests in writing; the removal workers spoke with the commander of the municipal police Guido Calzia, who promised a solution, while stressing that certain aspects are not within the competence of the municipality. The Councilor for Education Rita Dedola instead met the workers of the Music School. He proposed the fifth obligation: the contractor could be obliged to carry out the changes made by the Municipality. It would mean a salary increase for the employees.
